Default Powder coating or what?

I need to do away with the painted paddles on my Fuchs. Previous owner painted the paddle areas silver.....I want all black. I have a powder coater near by. Is that the answer? Dwight Johnson

powder coating is in fact like concrete .. but be sure you like the type of finish powder coating provides first .. ask to see a few examples. You want the effect of Satin Black. I don't think powder coating is smooth.

Powder coating is very smooth. I had my fan and housing done on my previous SC. Smooth as glass.

Powder coating? Si!

I've all four of my original wheels powder coated and the brake calipers. They're very smooth and I'm happy I did it. You can see the results at:

I heard its not a great idea to powder coat wheels as the heat process may affect things. But I am figuring our wheels get way up in temp under hard breaking..so I am not sure what wheel enhancement meant when they said that to me.

If the original clear anodize is still in good shape, then I'd just re-paint the wheels and be done with it. Powder coating does indeed bake the item at over 1000F. I don't care who you are, you are not going to get your wheels that hot with your brakes. Also, I know that powder coating the fan housing is a popular thing to do, but magnesium is very unstable. Powder coating heats it up to within a few hundred degrees of igniting. Also, it adds thickness. In the case of your fan, it adds material and may or may not cause the fan to be unbalanced. And who's engine fan ever stays clean anyway?

There is a Ceramic coating process that is fine for Magnesium bits like fans. That is what I went with based on the recommendation of a coater in the DFW area that did mostly race car bits.
