Post Removal of hood crest

So I need to replace the hood crest on my car. But I can't figure out how to get the old one off.
Help?

Two 8mm nuts from under the hood.

Look under the hood. There's a support brace across the hood, and in it are two holes right under the crest. There are two speed nuts in there (8mm, I think). Use a deep socket and back off the speed nuts. The crest should then come right off, though you might have to gently "coax" it a bit.

When you order the new crest, don't forget to get a gasket for it, and two new speed nuts. I replaced mine, and it made a world of difference in how good the car looked. It's a worthwhile investment.

Excellent advice from earlier posters. Got this tip from the guys at Pelican (from whom I ordered my new hood emblem):
Gently stretch the new gasket in all directions for several minutes prior to installing. This will allow the gasket to better conform to the crest. Also, try to do it when the ambient temperature is above 65 degrees, since the rubber gasket will contract in the cold.

A new crest does make the car look newer too...

I actually let my gasket sit in the sun, and then kept it warm with a hair dryer while installing it. If you don't heat it somehow, it is just too small and you might tear it. Gentle heat makes it much more pliable.
