Default steering wheel swap

Any opinions on the size of aftermarket steering wheels to replace the stock "Olds Cutlass" model on my 1988 Carerra? Stock appears to be 39 cm OD....would smaller make much of a difference and what would that be desirable?

ps. I have wanted a 911 for 45 yrs and bought one 14 days ago. I am in heaven

thanks, Dwight Johnson

Congratulations! And wow, you sure found and joined Rennlist quickly. There was a steering wheel thread awhile back. I went outside and measured my 930S steering wheel. It's 14" O.D. I wouldn't go any smaller than that. The steering effort is a bit higher than stock, especially at low speeds.

Default 930S

The 930S wheel is certainly a beautiful wheel and it's the one that got caught my eye. Did you have a bigger wheel and go to the 14"? thanks, Dwight

Welcome

The 930S wheel, or replicas available, is a good size.

Dwight, the p.o. of my 911 had given away (!!!) the stock '84 steering wheel, and replaced it with a Dino wheel with a Momo hub. It was about 14" and had nice thickness, but it flexed at bit at the top and I didn't care for the flat steel center hub.

I like the sculpted and flowing form of the 930S wheel. I got mine at Alan Johnson USA in San Diego before Pelican got going. I also recently purchased the offset hub, which raises the wheel a bit and brings it backward slightly. It's nice, and the steering is fairly heavy. But it's not a chick car after all, and neither is my work truck.
