Last weekend up at Elkhart Lake I met the first owner of my '71S. It was the first time he has seen the car since '79. He was very excited to see it. He is 75 now and has had 18 different Porsches since the early 60's. Starting with several 356s, he has owned an Abarth Carrera, 3 early 911s including my car, a '72S which is still in the family, and a '73 RS which he still owns. He raced a 906 in the Chicago Historics in the 80's. He has also owned a couple RUF turbos and several other more modern 911s and currently also has a 997S. Needless to say I was truly inspired to talk with and still see the passion in his eyes after almost 50 yrs.

Congrats Ya got me by 8 yrs and a few days. I'm 62 years 8-18. Porsche since 1966. First was a 62 Karmen notch back coupe when I was 19. I did actually miss one year of ownership in 1977.

Great to stumble across this thread! I entered my 30th year of 911 ownership 3 weeks ago. Now at 47, I sure hope to make it to the half century mark........and beyond. Know what though? It's extremely remote that it will be with one of the mass produced, water cooled variants.

I was driving the 73.5 Targa out to the shop today (the one I'm holding for the moment as I loaned money to a friend so he could make some house payments), and even though the thing is 35+ years old, it really works as a car. Starts right up, stops fine, accelerates decent enough, ride is pretty good even though the bushings, etc. in the suspension are trash. Not sure we can say the same for much else from that era!
