So, just how noisy can one of these things be, before you replace it out of consideration for your neighbors? A couple of people have told me that they hear my fuel pump over my engine, when I drive up! But, the car works just fine, and system pressure is normal. This is an '83, and my last '83 had a noisy fuel pump (well, maybe not quite as noisy) for 9 years, then I sold the car.

When my fuel pump (daily driver and track usage) started making noise, I replaced it. Figured Autozone doesn't carry them in stock, and the still working pump would be a working backup. Maybe the answer is, ala Dirty Harry, "how lucky do you feel"?

check the fuel filter first. a clogged filter will cause the pump to work harder and be noisier.
