Default 1976 body 993 conversion - Value / Opinion

I've been away from the boards for almost 18 months, but finding I just cannot stay away from a Porsche. Looking for something just to have fun with and came across a 1976 911, with a "getty" [spelling] wide body conversion, and upgrade to a 993 engine with 66k miles, frame off repaint, complete interior upgrade, 993 turbo wheels. Everything works except ignition switch, hich has been removed and you can turn with screwdriver, carr will crank and start but not continue to run, says CDI box is missing a wire. Small oil leak and a/c coil leak. Asking $15k.

Car is good looking and has had alot of work done to it, 3rd owner who planned on keeping it but lost big in the market and needs the cash. I would do a PPI to verify what it needs, but looking for opinions.

Should I even be considering a car with this many mods and changes? Also VIN number was 9126001474, but I know numbers are missing? Are they generic numbers or do I need to look elsewher.

Any input appreciated?

George

Don't do it. Everytime you look inside the car you will wish that the outside matched up... its better to have a classic than a modern wannabe in my opinion. Having said that if you really like the 993 shape, this might be an affordable way in. Each to their own...

They say that any used "911" has the potential to be a "$20K" car. This one sounds like it could be a $50K car.

The VIN has all the numbers. Although I have no 912E VIN references, I have a hunch that this disaster may have started life as 912E #1474.

Would be more desirable as a 76 with ONLY the motor conversion IMO.

Keep looking.
Ugggh, this car is a disaster.
It's not a 993, and you'll spend the rest of your days explaining away to people that it's not an Oooh so desirable 993, but a body kit on a mid-year 76'= barf.
The interior is not a 993.
"Everything works except ignition switch, which has been removed and you can turn with screwdriver, carr will crank and start but not continue to run, says CDI box is missing a wire. Small oil leak and a/c coil leak."
Ignition switch.... Almost sounds like a stolen recovery...
If the CDI was just missing a simple innocent little wire, umm, somebody would have replaced that wire long ago to make it drivable and sellable.
A/C coil leak, no problem, just have it recharged. Not. A/C problems can run into the THOUSANDS to get them properly sorted.
Seller makes it sound like trivial little problems, just wave a screwdriver at it some weekend and good as new. Talk about sugar coating. Priced and ignition assembly lately?
These are real, costly issues. God knows what else is lurking in there behind electrical tape and fiberglass panels....
Sorry, I've got my sarcasm hat on today in a big way. I should have just said RUN!!!!!!!

With the crazy prices of "original " cars these days , just enjoy what you have and put to good use all the money you saved !

Cheers
