Question Add and prices for 1985 Carrara suspension and brakes.

A guy responded to my add for a suspension and brake upgrade for my 1973 911T. Here it is.

You know, I may be overly **** about this, however, given the critical nature of the front strut spindel, I wouldn't buy one used...I'd ante up the bucks to buy a new one. Two of several sources are <a href="http://www.shox.com" target="_blank">www.shox.com</a> and Hendrick Porsche (800-315-8193), both which should have about as low as you can get on new strut prices.

A-arms should be a little better on the 88. Less miles and age to wear the bushings. Although, either way (88 or 85) they're most likely going to need replacement. Mine do- 87 w/64k mi.

Question

Since these adds only offer the front. I was wondering if it would be bad for my car to have different front and back suspensions. Shouldn't I get them from the same car? How exactly are the A-arms better on the 88 then the 85? Quick reply would be helpful.

Bill,

I think Kevin's point is that a newer set of a-arms has probably had less mileage and wear and tear. I'm not aware, off hand, of any design changes to the front strut during the Carrera 84-49 run.

The rears are different on the Carrera models from 87-89 when the G50 transmission came into play. Different torsion bars, torsion tubes, and possibly the rear swing arm (the part with the torsion bar cover) to accomodate the longer G50 transmission. Otherwise, the same.

And yes, you can mix and match within reason. Certainly using components from the Carrera family will be fine in almost any combination, of course excepting rear torsion bars as mentioned above.
