Never heard of "Vanity" plates (WTF?).
Custom, or as you originally noted , "collector" plates (which, 'round' here, are different from Custom Plates) are your personal call.
...to use the term Vanity?...well,..mmm.
Is this what they're called elsewhere (governmentally-speaking)? Or is this, in fact, a personal term?
I say get whatever you feel like getting.

My car's plates look like personalized (i.e. "vanity") license plates because 911 appears in there, and it's a 911.
I think the plate should represent the owner if you get one.
"Cowrera"?
