Stupid Question: Where is the CDI unit?
My tachometer works about once a month
for 3 seconds. I have a bentleys and have
searched these message boards for clues
on how to find out what's up. People refer
to the CDI(whatever that stands for) unit that has black/purple wires that corrode and wiggle
loose etc. Thanks!

CDI,
is the capacitive discharge ignition! what to find out about them? go to your local speed shop and ask them how msd,s work? but don,t sell your porsche one it,s just as good. if some one else has installed an msd then they have the fix for your car, i believe its the tach coupler. good luck, study some basic automotive electronic,s!

Lift the rear hood over the engine, on the left hand side of the engine against the body You'll see a black panel that has relays and fuses behind it, then next to it a metal box - that's your CDI unit. Picture on page 280-10 in the Bentley 911SC Service Manual.
