I was just tipped off to a "barn find" and will be investigating this week. Rumur was a '73 911S, so I drove by and the car is under a cover. I didn't want to arbitrarily start uncovering someones car, but I know the owner and left a message this afternoon. It is an early coupe with visible fuchs - couldn't make out if it had alloy calipers or oil cooler lines. God I want another '73S. Evan if this car is a total lump I'm gonna try for it.
I know the longing feeling these cars produce. Good luck with your search.

If you are thinking you want a 73 CIS car you need to buy a T. I have a 73 S Targa I will be selling later this summer, drop me a line if you are interested.

update to my above post regarding the barn find. "75S - not the "73S I was dreaming about. hasn't run in ~3 years, but the 2.7 had been rebuilt extensivly by Larry Sheldrick. That guy has built some of the coolest 911 on the east coast and I personally know a few R-gruppe cars he built. I am sure that 2.7 will rev like a 2.7 can. "Half interested" in selling the guy said. I'll probably keep looking.

Unfortunately, finding an "S" from 1973 is a serious challenge. Far more T and E models were produced. EVERYONE is looking for one of those so your job is going to be hard. Be very careful with proceeding,--many E and T models have amazingly "become" S models with some retrofit work of some key parts, available after the fact. Make sure you do a history check on the VIN to ensure it's a true S.

Depending on your final objective, an S clone could be the car for you. Especially a driver with track duty. Every time I took my '73 S coupe to the track there was always somebody that came over and said "you know you shouldn't be driving that car on the track" . I would ask if they had rather me lap their boxster in an old 911T or my S. Early cars are a lot of fun and can be wicked fast. Remember after '73 911's just got slower, aside of the turbo, until the late '80s.
