Default Help With Purchase

Hi, everyone. I've posted this at a couple of enthusiast sites to try and make the best decision possible.

Basically, I'm looking to buy an 80's 911, most likely an SC but am open to suggestions. My price ceiling is 15K, preferably closer to 10K.

What I'm looking for from you fine educated folks is any general tips on how to go about making this purchase, i.e., where to buy, what to look for etc.

I live in a small Canadian province where cars such as this are few and far between, so my only options are online classifieds (no idea where to look) and eBay (no idea how to filter through the "good" and bad" since there are so many variables with auctions and sellers).

For starters, I was looking at this high-mileage SC. Despite it's mileage, it seems well-maintained and documented and look about as clean as I could hope. Thoughts?

Any tips, advice etc. would be very greatly appreciated.

check out the PPI thread on the top of the 911 board, very useful on what to look for. I bought an 86 911 about a month ago. $10k is likely going to be way off the mark and $15k isn't going to be easy either unless the car needs a lot of work or is not in very good shape. I think the range is probably closer to $17-$20. 928's of that vintage are in your price range.

Personally, I'd stay away from E-bay. Check out this article written in the monthly newsletter of my PCA club.

You can join the PCA as a "quest" member, there are a lot of cars for sale on it

Thanks, I greatly appreciate the the advice.

RL911, I apologize if I was mistaken regarding price. I had read elsewhere on multiple sources that a good SC (and models of similar vintage such as the 3.2) could be had for 10-15K.

If price would be closer to 20K, perhaps I should look into an older 996?

I didn't see them that cheap in my search...the range I saw for decent ones was about $17-$21

Thanks. I suppose if I have to go a bit above budget in order to get a good example, then it would be worth it. Better to be pay more now than a LOT more in the future.
