Doug, you are a bad ***... That 911 looks awesome! I am blown away by the amount of work that you have put into it. It can't wait to see it on the roads of Utah this coming summer...

Best of luck with the restoration...

Powerwash, degreaser, powerwash, degreaser, elbow grease, Purple Power. The case and trans are Magnesium.

I cleaned up and painted the stock muffler and welded on a new chrome tip. I'll keep that for now but probably after the rebuild I won't be able to resist a SS muffler.

Those plug cables are actually old (yet still good), cables from my 964. I had to trim about a 1/4" off the spark plug end to get them to seat correctly. I used the original distributor plugs. The resistance was in spec (around 4 kohm as I recall). The original cables were history and these made a big difference, but these are only temporary and I will replace these with something else this summer. It sounds like the Magnecors deserve a look.

Me too! I'd love an old 911 to restore and play with. But first I need to play with mine when it arrives...LOL

Default Back from paint

I got the car back from paint yesterday. After searching through 50 shades of silver, I came up with a Volvo color simply titled 'silver'. I was trying to match the original finish as much as possible and avoid the overly metallic, overly bright silvers found on newer cars. I'm happy with this choice. I've gathered most of my parts and the engine/trans is finished. Since getting it yesterday, I'm still trying to get my head around where to start!

Default Finished and on the road!

Well, its 'done'. I'm sure I'll find little things to tinker with over the summer while I'm enjoying driving it. Got it out on the road the last week between snowstorms. Very happy with the end product and it's driving/running very well with everything that was done over the winter. A lot of little things done like refinishing signal housings, oil tanks, heat flapper boxes, horns, straightening/repairing door pockets, etc. in addition to the major work:
- Original silver color to bare metal. Refinished wheel wells to satin black
- New fenders
- H4s, new signal lens'
- Stripped, polished and repainted wheels (now I know why refinishers charge so much)
- New body rubber/seals
- New velour carpet from Tony at Autobahn (highly recommended)
- New Corbeau GTS II leather/suede seats. Keeping the excellent originals to stay with the car. I'm very happy with these seats. Very comfortable, perfect height for me (5-11), and they smell nice
- Refinished visors (Vinyl Specialties) to match the new headliner
- Tach re-damped by NH Speedo
- Fixed the odometer (the usual re-crimping the pot metal gear on the shaft)
- All gauges cleaned (inside glass) and they all work/light (including clock)
- Neatrix spring plate bushings
- Weltmeister front sway bar (incredible improvement)
- Set ride height to Euro spec (now I know why someone laughed at my long ago comment about a "simple rear torsion bar adjustment")
- Cleaned and repainted gas tank
- Opened trans and flipped synchros, replaced seals, etc. Shifts very smooth now
- New clutch/PP/TOB/cable
- Replaced/refinished everything external to the engine and new gaskets everywhere. The only oil leak left is a very minor one on the case seam (next winter with the rebuild). New oil lines and dipped/cleaned oil tank. The engine runs noticeably cooler now after cleaning fins, ducting, etc.
- New SSIs (I now have heat!)
- PMO water shield air cleaners (nice sound)
- Rebuilt alternator

Well anyway, you get the idea, everything on the car was either replaced or refinished since I purchased last summer. For the most part it's a new car and drives like it. I kept everything original with the exception of seats, H4s, and front bumperette deletes (basically removed the ugly USA add-on crap). It was a fun winter project as I did all the work myself with the exception of paint.
Lastly, I have the Zeniths dialed in now and they are running perfect. I ordered a Innovate LM-1 AFR meter with RPM to do the final jetting and I'm looking forward to tinkering with that.

Here's the photos...

Default Cheap insurance

One other addition...
The wall mount bracket that comes with the extinguisher zip-ties nicely to the grille on the tunnel cover.

Wow ! (wiping drool off the keyboard...)

Awesome job from beginning to end.

I really wish I had the time and skills to pull off a project like that.

Now that is one handsome car. I really don't know if I could undertake that large of a project. Well done.

Beautiful car! Drooling as well. Now I want an long hood to go with my impact bumper car.

Mine would have to be Slate Grey/black just like McQueen's in LeMans.... sigh

The only think that looks out of place for me is the seats . The rest of the car looks terrific and I guess I just expected a pair of period correct seats ... great Job nevertheless...
