Default 78 wide body on fleabay

Was there a wide body option in 1978 from the factory? I'm almost sure not (I used to know this stuff but forgot- I think it was first a factory option in the early 80's)... Assuming this is aftermarket, I can't fathom why this car is bidding so high assuming non-factory wide body. I'm sure it cost a lot of money to put together, but usually things like that are the loss to the person who layed out the coin to customize...it's a nice car, but over $21K? For my money I'd rather just wait and get a real turbo...or for the same money get a very nice "normal"/stock 3.2. Then again, I never got the wide body option and the value placed on it- you get everything but the motor- just seems like a let down to me. (all my opinion of course...)

The first wide bodied cars came out in 1984. This one has 2 strikes against it. A converted SC to a wide body, the seller.

I believe they did have the turbo-look in '78. Mine is a '78, but my turbo look was after market with the addition of a 3.2 engine. That car has been repainted though.

How VM always manages to get their grimey hands on so many cosmetically beautiful 911s is beyond me. Its such a kick in the tail knowing they just flip em for a profit... where are these owners or auctions that let these gems go so cheap! Or maybe they just pick up the really shiney ones regardless of mechanical condition???

that's funny ... before I even to Gt's post I new you were talking about VM .. lol

but as far as the "widebody" is concerned, I hav not clicked the link but the Sc at the time was considered the first "widebody" because it had the rear fender flares the 74-77 did not have .. not to be confused with the turbo or TL widebody of course.

I get sick of this crap from them. I met someone recently who bought an '89 that looks very nice, but an after-the-fact Carfax showed a big problem with mileage.

They don't specifically state this is a factory widebody. They also list this as 0 miles, WTF? I see a lot of wear and tear-look at the trunk carpet, the ID tag, etc. My guess is that it ain't so sweet in person. Lastly, with the anonymous bidding system, who's to say they don't have shills bidding this up?

Guys, you obviously did not notice their patented carpet cleaning pattern on the door pockets and floors of all of the cars they sell. That's money and that's why they can sell these cars for so much.

X2

I noticed there are fewer impact bumper 911's listed on ebay lately.

Assuming the bidder didn't see the car in person (part of the reason many cars don't bid quite up to market on ebay, and probably why a real interested buyer uses ebay like advertising, contacting the seller to see the car and buy in person, etc), I still don't get the price for this car. It's surprising it's over $21K for a 30 year old car with non-factory mods. It's a good looking car and is not some $8K car, but $21K+? I think Ed is on to something- insider bidding?

That car wa sfor sale on a lot of other sites for a while, obviously VM snapped it up cleaned it up and is trying to flip it. The M491 Turbo Look option was no available on and SC. That car also has obviously had a sloppy paint job. Run Forest run!!!

The basic 911 for 74-77 has a small flairing in the rear, except the Carrera models which did have the wider flair that was later on the SC's, ex: 76-77 3.0 Carrera's.

That is not the issue here, the car noted truly is what we'd all call a widebody or what would later be the M491.
