I think that the SSI and this muffler( www.montymufflers.com/pages/sc_911.htm) is as good as it gets. It will set you back a chunk, but it will transform your car like nothing else. It will be your favorite upgrade - I promise.
If the heads come off, well the sky is the limit, I like Web-Cam 964 regrind, it works well on CIS cars.
I know its expensive, but well worth it.
And, by all means, do the maintenance as stated above.
I have never messed with a Porsche MSD ignition. I am not convinced there is any improvement to be had there over stock unless you twin-plug the heads, and then, well....it's not a while-you're-in-there modification.
