Default ppi protocol

As my search for my first Porsche continues, I have come across a few inntneresting prospects. As luck would have it though, none are local. How do I go about finding a qualified shop to have the PPI done in a different city? And do I make an offer on the car pending the results of the PPI, or should I have the PPI done, and then make the offer? This is the one I am leaning towardshttp://http://www.autotrader.com/dea...0&cardist=5438
hope the link works, technology is not my forte

PPI in different city?
1. Ask the folks on Rennlist.
2. Contact the local PCA chapter and ask for a referral.

The final offer you make will always depend on the results of the PPI. You can make the owner an offer but stipulate that it may be modified depending how the inspection turns out.

First off-Welcome to Rennlist. I think you have done the right thing asking here. I would never make a offer before the PPI. I feel someone here is in your area and will probably have a suggestion for shops to get the PPI done. The dealer is not neccesarily the best place. But get the PPI done first. I couldn't get the link to work, but records and history are important. If these are available, contact the shop that did the work. Its usually at the top of the recipts. In addition, if the PPI is good, compare other cars in price and condition. I have done many PPIs and would NEVER speculate on the price. That was the first question the prospective owner would ask and it really puts a shop in an uneasy position. I would never value a car, but only evaluate its condition. When a shop prices a car someone always gets their feelings hurt, either seller or buyer.
Good luck and keep searching.

I personally think I would agree on the price pre-ppi- and have it dependant on the PPI. For example if you agree on X price and there are issues he has not revealed that the PPi catches now you can negotiate the lowering of X price to fix the issues or you can walk.

If you agree on a price post PPI you have no negotiating power and he can say it is X price already because of those issues.

either way a solid PPI is ket to a sucessful transaction , but keep in mind these guys are not magicians, there still may be some items they don't catch.

sorry for the bad link. My seven year old is up now , so this should work better http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb
The price and condition seem good, but its about a 9 hour drive from here, so that makes me sad. I'm scheduled to go see an '89 with about 65k mi next week, but it's 6k more. I hate making decisions.

Hi kurt,
good advice here - I am up 63 (welsh) aways from ya.
your link is bad, so ask here for an independent PPI guy for the state/city you are searching in.
Get Pete Zimmermans' book.
Let the PPI be your leverage for determining the final price.
best of luck to you.

Can't seem to be able to get the link to work. Got the Zimmerman book, it has been very helpful, and has definitely cemented my desire for the '88-89 models.

Kurt: Is the link that Doug posted the car you're interested in? If so and if it's in Alpharetta, GA I may actually know a garage near there.

I found my car through Autotrader. It was in Marietta, GA which is about 30 miles from Alpharetta. I used a place called Ryland's.

No, the 911 I was looking at is in Liberty Township, OH. But that one in Ga is tasty as well. I found it through AutoTrader as well. It's an 88 cab, red, 99k miles, for just under 20k.
