mystery tank in front drivers side fender
I have a 1973 911T targa, 2.4L MFI. Today while i had the front bumper off the replace the ugly "bumperettes" with a new deco strip, I noticed a plastic tank inside the drivers side fender. There did not appear to be any way of putting anything into this tank, so I was wondering what it was for. Also, my car does not have A/C, but in the back of the drivers front fender well, what looks to me to be a A/C dryer canister is bolted with lines coming off it. I do not have A/C vents in the car either. So??? Did this car have A/C in the past and some one pulled it and all the vents??

Scott,
The plastic tank is a fuel vapor tank. There are connected hoses that run from the fuel tank, to the filler neck, to a black box located behind the gauges{under the hood, behind the dash, drivers side), to a charcoal cannister.
The hoses then run through the car to the air cleaner and fan shroud.
It is a way to burn the fuel vapors, instead of released into the atmosphere.
There are many debates on keeping vs. trashing the whole system. No one can really tell the difference.
If you decide on trashing, let me know, I will purchase the whole connected system. I like stock.

Thanks Ray. I guess that also tells me what that "mini muffler" is in my front compartment. The canister just sort of lays there. I'm going to take a hard look at the set up and if it can be removed with out harming the cars driveability, its outta there. Make me an offer on it and be specific on what parts would be included so I can make sure I get each part out.
