that EXACT thing happened to me back in my 944 days .. the guy had it for weeks and had my car in bits. he quoted me 1500 to do a valve job and then called me and said it needed 10,000 in work, and my car was in pieces .
I called a flatbed to get my car and payed him over 2K in " work already done" . I took my lums and moved on . best thing I ever did . Incidentally I had the car fixed up and completely rebuilt engine for 4K including valves machine work , new rings and rod bearings.

Bottom line is he thinks he has you over a barrel. But he doesn't . get your gearbox and RUN.
