In my unsolicited opinion, putting a 959 body on a 73 911 is a colossally bad idea.

Go to Yahoo and search on '959 body kit' and you'll come up with some choices.

I think it would be much more cool to take a 959 and turn it in to a 73T.

So you want to look like a 959 but go like a 911T? Why? All bling and no zing.

How about investing the money to make your T into an RS replica, perhaps with a 3.0 or 3.2? This would look cool and you'd have the performance you know you'll end up longing for. We'd all be green with envy, too!

Instead of simply being negative, let me offer you some pictures of some alternative ideas:

And here.

In particular, something like this:

The 959 was a technical marvel, but it was (and is) a pretty ugly car. And if you ain't got the power to back up the look, you're going to look like a dork. The early 911 is considered by many to be the best-looking iteration of the whole design bloodline.

First I'd have to say that I agree going to a RSR would be a better idea, or even restoring the 73. 73's are nice looking cars. But, if your heart is set on a 959 try www.paulsexotics.com
I personally know Paul and have seen and rode in his 959 conversion based on a 69 w/ a 3.0L. They do look quite authentic, and you will get all the looks and attention you are probably searching for. But, having said that, the 959 is a twin turbo water-cooled 4WD, with over 400 Hp. THe 73 is a carbed, RWD , air-cooled with under 200Hp. So, if you get really cocky about the thing you will embarass yourself quite nicely. It will also not be cheap. Body panels, install, and paint/body work along with the other stuff = $10,000+ easy. He has already made one for sale now. It does look nice and and is quite fast, and handles like any Porsche. I'd go for the RS setup, but give Paul a shout if the 959 is what you're realy after. Insurance will sure beat regular 959 rates(which aren't EPA lagal anyway).
Selling the 73 and buying a late 80's 3.2 turbo-look may be your best bet. Good Luck!

PS check out the sub on paul's site..very cool!

Thanks for your opinions guys. I bought a pre-modified 1973 911. Looks kinda like a 930 with the wide body and whale tale. Unfortunately, I was an ignorant 16 year old when I bought it for $2,000, not running. I thought it would take a little work to fix it up. However, when there's a tiny bit of visible rust, that doesn't mean it doesn't go down into every innard of the car. So right now its stripped all the way down, undergoing restoration when I am not studying in College, that's not very much. I just love the 959 a thought I investigate that option. If you guys have any idea. How much do you think it would cost to have a body shop do the tiny remainder of rust repair thats left, put some fiberglass fenders on front and back, some bondo and paint? I don't have the time or equipment anymore to finish my project and would like it done before I go to dental school, in 1.5 years. Do you guys know if there's any place near Chattanooga, TN that does good work too?

Thanks guys,
Bill

Here is my 2 cents. As has been stated dozens of times, ultimately it is your car. If you like the looks of the 959 that is up to you, you are the one who will be driving it. Not all people are into speed or racing, and the cost of some vehicles will alway be prohibitive to some and a replica may be the only way people will ever have the look of a vehicle they would really like, ie. beck spyder etc.

I agree with the Silver Bullet, I think the 959 is very cool looking. Here's the problem I find with the kits available. They're all made from pictures of the car and not molds of the actually part so, none of the kits I've ever seen are correct (that's not to say there might be one out there) and with most of them the molds are really old and won't lay up as well anymore. This could be part of the reason so many people don't like the looks because they haven't been able to actually see a real one in real life (and if you have and still hate it...that's cool too)

If you could make one look like a real one that's one thing but usually they turn out like the F40 body kits on a Pontiac. In your case you already have a real Porsche
