Default Has anyone rebuilt your own alternator, DIY?

Has anyone rebuilt your own alternator, DIY? I mean rebuilt, not just replacing the voltage regulator. What part involved, and what part is a must/optional for rebuilding?
Looked at my rebuilt alternator last year, I think they replaced the VR, bearing, and some tyupe of "dark red paint". Someone told me that the rectifier is also need to be replace to complete rebuild.
The reason I am thinking of doing myself this time is because I want to do it right. On the current rebuilt alternator I am using right now always charge at high as 14.9v while driving on freeway.
Thanks.
