This is the second time I've done an alternator on a 911, so I'm at least somewhat familiar with the process. Interestingly, the first time I did it I had Al Reed polish and powder coat the fan and housing. When I put it back together, the blade tips just nicked the housing, and it was because of the powder coating. I had to sand tips of the blades to get the proper clearance.

The plastic deflector is already cracked a bit from the PO (or his wrench). I'll try to repair it before reassembly.

talk about clearances... wow .. I have heard this beore though some tape off the edge of the fan before spray

yup. Even experienced people will forget to slowly turn the fan before going for the belt. You have to double check that clearance.
