Cleaning CIS injectors
Hi Listers,
While I have my engine out for a tranny rebuild, I am replacing some seals and detailing the engine. I have my injectors out and can't resist the temptation to give them a good cleaning. Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? Could I soak them in carb cleaner? Can I do any damage to them by cleaning them? What is the best way.
TIA

The factory approved cleaning procedure actually uses a CIS injector cleaner tool. It is an odd looking pump that screws onto your injector and you operate it by hand...squirting gool 'ol mineral spirits through each injector until you get an even spray pattern.
This is also the same procedure to test injectors, as you may find a few that have a bad spray pattern that doesn't improve with cleaning.
Look around your local VW/Audi/Porsche repair shops, some guy is liable to have one laying around that he MAY let you use.
