I can't friggin' believe it. The rear plastic window snapped this morning on my '84 911 Cab. I'm heading out of town with her for 2 days of driving in the rain Thurs / Fri too.
So, I have some ghetto red duct tape over the break now, and I'll keep towels under the tear on the back shelf.
I've been planning for some time to get the top replaced, new seals, etc. (have the headliner already), but the timing completely bites.

DAmn that sucks .... the only consolation I can offer is that it is not a Targa ... back window on that is unbelievable .. stop y a hardware store and get some yellow and black tape to so you can have a "flag" car ..

Pelican, $1057 for all of the seals. For reference, $891 there for the german canvas, but the local upholsterer / cab top guy won't guarantee fit unless he buys the top. He has no issue with doing my getting the seals. He's working a quote on top & labor. I have the GAHH german cloth headliner already.
Looking to be a $2500 repair if I do all the seals at the same time. Ugh.
Anyone have any other thoughts / comments before I commit?

nyuk nyuk nyuk!
The labor's the least of my worries. He removed the top, re-sewed the rear window zipper which had unthreaded, and reinstalled for $400 a few years ago. Had I known he was removing the top back then, I'd have had him install a new top while it was off... I thought he was going to hand-sew while on the car. Silly me.

Fred,
I am suprised the shop did not suggest that it be replaced at that time. I suggest to my customers to replace but it depends on the condition of the top. I have done it both ways. what was the weight of the plastic window? 30 oz, 40oz, 50oz? I would hope that it would last longer than a couple of years. IMO.

It was the original top. Last time, only about 6" of the stitching holding the zipper to the main top had unstitched. Yeah, I'd be going apesh!t if it was a 2 year old replacement top that let go.
It's time, all of the original seals are starting to show their age. The headliner's gone (literally) and the canvas has shrunk some - the rear is starting to curl up just before the rear decklid.
Performance Products was in the same ballpark as Pelican was, a little higher but offered a discount if I bought the whole kit. Pretty much a wash between the two.

Opportunity is knocking.
Answer for Justin; They get old and brittle. They cannot flex as well, and crack in the cold especially. After a few years you should not mess with them below about 50 or 55 degrees.

Exactly.
Top was down, I was putting the top up so they could lock the car when they were done with the state inspection. While zipping the rear window up, I heard the snap. Done deal. It's about 6-8" up from the bottom of the plastic window, more toward the passenger side.
I'm heading out the door for a few days guys. I'll have the laptop, no promises on updates from Deals Gap / Tail of the Dragon though... do they have internet down there?![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I talked with Glenn at Pelican today, and ended up ordering from him all of the seals I'll need.
I got the quote from the upholsterer today, ~$1500 installed for the top, I have the headliner already, and the seals order was $1080 by the time I was done.
