Well Doug this arguement has gone back and forth forever. Some literature indicated in did Not stand for this . Guess I can go ahead and order my SC world domination badge now ...

I never looked into the literature, just assumed it stood for something in German with the meaning of either Super Carrera or Sport Carrera. They wouldn't use the term "Coupe" for a car that was so revolutionary for Porsche at the time. It was a pretty fantastic car for it's day.
I'll look into my copy of Excellence Was Expected tonight after "24" . I'll report back if I find anything pertinent.

Ludvigsen's "Excellence Was Expected" does not help to clarify the name, but it says that the SC replaced two models, the 911 and the Carrera. The engine was 30 cubic inches larger, and the SC had the same body and fender flares as the Carrera. The Carrera had more horsepower, but the SC had more torque. It appears that the SC followed a mono model philosophy, because the only choices were between a coupe and a Targa, and 5 speed or Sportomatic.
So regardless of what the sales department came up with, the Engineering department clearly had a more torquey, more drivable car in mind. They were probably following a logical progression, building on the 2.7 liter Carrera, thus "Super Carrera".

so obviously when they came up with inferior valve guides , bad relays and failing DME's and CHT sensors they had to drop the Super part and just call it the Carrera ...
okay I think I've done it now .....

1. 5 minutes or less to replace the DME relay if mine tosses it in.
2. Spend several days trying to get my CIS working correctly then do at least a partial drop to replace my blown airbox.
What to do, what to do?
Okay, I've got it: I'll go with the "full" Carrera over the Semi-Carrera.
Ha!
