Noting that lots of the same questions come up time after time, and in searching around the Rennlist web site, I discovered an article I wrote a few years back. It may not be brilliant, BUT it does contain lots of information on preparing a 911SC for autocross, or the track. And believe me, I learned all the information the hard way as I campaigned a 80 Weissach coupe a few years back. As an example, I went through 3 iterations of oil coolers before I found the best fit for me and my needs, from stock loop cooler, to a Terbotrol, to a 87 Carrera with manual fan override switch and finally to the 934 valance with a center mounted oil cooler. The final iteration was the best.
I have since gone on to a 993...but I still love the 78 to 83 coupe, no sunroof preferred. You will find the article with this link:
Thanks for the kind words...the article was written at a point in my life where the day job took very little time...not the case any more. I probably spent 80 hours, or more gathering data and organizing it into the final form.
I checked out Elephant Racing...great products, the track skin and the heat sink oil lines. I believe our mentor Bruce Anderson once wrote the the oil lines to and from the fender mounted 911 oil cooler contribute significantly to the cooling process. Converting these lines to a giant heat sink makes lots of sense.
