Shift linkage adjustment
Good morning everyone! New to this board but have already learned alot, thanks!
I've got a 83 SC Cab Euro which was shifting poorly from 1st to 2nd so decided after reading on this board to start by replacing the ball cup and shift bushing, while I was at it went ahead with a short shift kit and some leather goodies. Got it installed last night and although it does shift better thru all the gears it still does not like 2nd! have adusted the linkage but was wondering if anyone has any "tricks" for this adjustment. Thanks!

Steve, seems that Swepco is one of the most adhered to rec's for improvement, after you've taken care of linkage and bushings.
Be kind to the 915 and don't hurry your shifts.

Steve:
When you replaced your shift bushing, did you check to make sure the pinch screw at the bottom of this cup was tight? This is the pinch screw that connects the rod to the cup that holds the bushing at the end of your shifter.
Also, the shift coupler under the rear inspection plate may require many tries to get it adjusted right. Keep all the tools in the car and the 'plate off. Over time, you can fine-tune this and become a pro. at the job.
Finally, check the static shift fork that attaches to the plate on the bottom of the trans next time the trans oil is out. Four bolts and the plate is off. Pull three nuts, fork, then tighten threaded studs (loctite blue) and reassemble. They are ALWAYS loose to some degree.

thanks everyone for your help. The problem was the shift kit! After reading more about them from other members (mostly bad) decided to take it out to see if this was the problem. After installing the factory shifter everything works great!! thanks again!

Did you install a weltmeister, factory, or other, short shift kit. I have a weltmeister that I haven't installed yet and I am wondering if I should. I would also like to know if the factory ss kit is as bad as the aftermarkets. By the way I just ordered a gallon of Swepco for my car and I am hoping it will make an improvement. thanks

I want to try Swepco too, but cannot source it locally. Where do you guy get it for the best price? I'm in Ohio so I'd prefer a midwest or east coast vendor for less shipping

John,
It doesn't help you now, but Foreign Intrigue in Maine has a sale early each January, and Swepco is around $28 per gallon. Just checked their website (www.foreignintrigue.com) and it's $34 now. I know Northstar Motorsports (www.northstarmotorsports.com) in Barrington, Illinois carries it for $48. Jason at Paragon (www.paragon-products.com) in Texas carries it for $38. They are all good companies to deal with.
You could also try calling Swepco at 1.877.585.5588 and ask them if there are any retailers closer to you.
