Question Air Conditioning unit not working

Hi all

well, now that I am coming out of my two week "honey moon" period, I have to start coming back down to earth and tackle some problems. nothing major, thanks god, but the aircon that was working when I collected the car has seized on me.

When it worked I recall there being a distinct "click" as in a thermostat kicking in or off, when I turned the **** to increase the A/C. Now this click does not happen. I dont know where to start looking, whether this could be an electrical problem, a mechanical problem of the Adjuster/thermostat or whether the problem is more serious in the compressor and or liquid escaped. I know htat the dealer filled and serviced the unit before I purchased, but that is all.

btw. I cant take the car back easily as he is over 1000 km from here.

Also, another question related more to this list: how can we change our "avatar" to an uploaded image - like if I want to put my car on the left column under my name. I have looked around and found no way of doing this.

More than likely it's the AC fuse. Not sure about your car, but on mine it's the second fuse from the rear. One of the few "mistakes" that Porsche made on these cars is running the entire AC system through ONE fuse. Consequently, they overheat and burn out rather frequently.

Ditto the thing about using an uploaded avatar. I e-mailed the webmaster and haven't heard any response...

Thanks for your reply David.

I checked the fuses and they are all intact. In fact the A/C shares the same fuse as teh electric motor seats which are working.

Anyone else has any other ideas??

Also, I noticed that the indicator lights on the sides have condensation inside, also the back indicators. What is the best thing to do about this - if I do nothing, will it have detrimental effects on other items or not.

There must be a way to put personalised avatars by your name as I hvae seen some, but there are no instructions for doing this

cheers and talk to you all again.

This happened on my 88' and the solution was simple - that little wire that has a slide connection on the compressor had come undone.

You have probably checked this already, but thought I would throw it out. Hope you get a quick fix.

HI MTodd

No, I had not checked it out, actually, I dont even know where the compressor is :-( Can you give me an indication where it is. I found "something" under a flap in the front bay (near the glove compartment area) is that it?

thanks in advance

Hi Elias

The compressor is located in the engine bay, to the right of the fan. It is the part that your car has and mine has not
