While driving fast at VIR this past weekend- the need for a spoiler on my 87 911 became very apparent. I would like to install one (actually two- front also) that was stock equipment. Does anyone have opinions on the correct one to use and info on sources for their purchase? Thanks-bruce w

Bruce,
You can buy a kit from Porsche for the Carrera tail and needed hardware. List is around $1000-$1100, if you want original I'd call Hendrick Porsche, who discounts 20%-30% 800-315-8193 (last time I priced the kit I want to say it was around $740-$750) The part number is listed in the Porsche 911 Parts and Technical Reference book. If you don't have one, Hendrick does. For the same price, you could buy the Turbo tail kit, but it wasn't original equipment, and might require a different lid.
You can buy through other third party sources fiberglass copies with the rubber edge. What I did on my SC was to buy an RS-America-style solid fiberglas spoiler from MA Shaw, around $450. Fits right into the existing lid, just needs painting (although I left mine black which looked OK against the white body). Or you can also buy all sorts of fancy wings (as opposed to spoilers) with adjustable aluminum wings and additional air intakes - depends on what you want to accomplish, tastes and needs.
The front valance extension can be purchased through Porsche or other vendors. You need the valance itself and the parts (screws, etc) which is usually sold separately.

Bruce,
Long time no see : I remember driving down the back straight at Mid Ohio with you, and actually posted the experience a few days ago. I remember getting extra down force from my turbo tray and front spoiler, and recall you mentioning some instability. I'm pretty sure it was wet. Anyway, you know what my car looks like, and it worked pretty well. By the way, I sold it to a friend in Ann Arbor, and now have a '96 993. I'm taking it to Gingerman on the 20th, and to Grattan on the 27-28. Will you be at either event? I hope to be able to drive with you again sometime soon. I'll be here and there throughout the summer, and hopefully at Mid-Ohio a couple of times as well. I put some adjustable sway bars on my 911 after I drove yours, and they made a tremendous difference. I was able to both stabilize the ride, and tune in the over/understeer. We drove very comparably. How have your brakes been holding up?
Welcome to the list

Bruce, another suggestion, search the archives and recent posts (on this board) for more information.
This subject comes up quite frequently...I think you're barking up the RIGHT tree though, with wanting front/rear spoilers.
Good luck on your search, my advice would be to go with the standard Carrera tail with factory rubber...and of course, the factory chin spoiler.
