Sport Muffler Application 72 911T
I am considering changing my stock muffler to a sport muffler with twin outlets to gain a little horsepower. The car is a stock 1972 911T with a stock 2.4L motor with MFI.
My questions is do I need to make any other modifications to my MFI or anything else to have this work properly?
The car will be used primarly for the track with just ocassional street use.
As usual any help would be appreciated.

You can try enriching the midrange setting on the MFI pump. I forget which screw it is, but only
change the settings with the engine OFF! Check the factory manual, an MFI manual, or an experienced MFI mechanic. Do not use the Haynes manual, the instructions in the Haynes manual are not complete.

Hi Frank:
There are several good sport mufflers out there that will boost your mid-range torque a little bit and are worthwhile.
Some sport mufflers make more noise than power, and some nice-sounding ones do NOT even make as much power as a stock OEM muffler so Caveat Emptor, Sir.
I've had good luck with Monty Mufflers, Dansk, and the Factory twin-pipe sport muffler although those are somewhat loud. Others do not do as well.
You will likely need to adjust your fuel injection pump main rack adjustment to eliminate the flat spot that sometimes occurs.

Steve,
What settings do you recommend for the MFI with the twin-pipe sport muffler? I have a Gunson Gastester and am going to verify that I have 5-6% CO at idle, and 7-8% CO at 3000 RPM (obviously, not under load: I've heard that under load the combustion is more efficient and so the real CO is closer to the (much lower) factory settings).
This is, of course, after I go through "Check Measure Adjust" to be sure I have the correct baseline.
