Default 259 miles last year and now car won't move

Last year I put 259 miles on my car and my new years resolution was to drive it more this year. It is a beautiful day in Denver and when I went to pull out the car today and it would not go into gear. It just grinds. I Jacked the car up and can see that the clutch cable is engaging. The transmission was rebuilt about 3 years ago. Can anyone help with the diagnosis? This is my first posting and could use some help.

Sincerely,
Sunny day with no ride!

Last time that happened to me(grinding)it was a cracked pressure plate. I hope this isnt your problem! Last thing I thought I was going to need was a new clutch when I heard grinding. BTW I have a G50.

Thanks Leo. I hope it is not the case. To add to the symptoms, the car in the off position, will not allow me to put into 1st gear. All other gears work fine. As mentioned the car has been sitting. It's a 1981 911. Any one else have any ideas?

One additional tidbit, it only grinds when I have the car on and trying to move it into gear.

Your pressure plate is likely stuck (rusted) to the flywheel as this is common for cars that are stored in moist environments.

Push starting the car with a hard bump oftentimes breaks everything loose,..

1st can be hard to get into when the car is not rolling at a slow speed ~3mph. The car wouldn't grind if the engine was off. Are you going into reverse? Reverse has no synchros and needs to have the clutch depressed until the clutch stops. I found with my BMW that I had to depress the clutch much longer before shifting into reverse when it was cold outside (for South Carolina).
Try this:
Put the car into any gear with the engine off. Hold the clutch down and start the car. Be ready in case the car lurches. If the car lurches than your clutch is not disengaging otherwise you were having 1st and reverse issues or you just fixed the struck clutch disc (like Steve's suggestion).

Maybe something's just up with your shifter linkage or bushings, if not the case Steve described.

are you able to get it into all the gears while car is off? If so, thats exactly what happened to me. When this happened the car had only been driven 1000 miles in the past 12 months. I wouldn't do anything. the constant grinding might crack the PP. Just have it towed to your wrench.

Hello all,

good news, Steve was right. It only took a little nudge. I walked the situtation over with the wrench before I did it. Thanks for your help. George

Let this be a lesson to us all... these cars are meant to be driven, not stored. Obvisiouly if we're packed in with snow you can't but there are some folks out there that just rarely drive these cars; afraid they'll wear them out I guess.
