Favor after a serious wreck please
Well, just after visiting home from his tour to Iraq, my son was in a wreck in his 911. All this just a month before he is to be discharged. We experienced a mild February day with sudden evening sleet and he was caught coming home in the precipitation. OK; the favors I am looking for include:
1) contact information for someone who can take our "before" pictures, PPI and documentation and assimilate a "before wreck" appraisal. We are in central Maryland.
2) An estimate of what the engine + transaxle would be worth. This might help him reclaim badly needed capital. That part of the vehicle was reasonably untouched. The engine has approximately 70K miles on it. Components, hoses, harnesses, everything was like new.
This vehicle "was" virtually perfect. A few before photos are attached. The passenger (my other son) walked away. My oldest son is being treated for two leg breaks and the prognosis is good.

The "after" photos follow. This was a gem purchased from Victory Motors in Houston last year. Please take note of the engine/transaxle area of the car.

Michael, I'm afraid I can't help you with appraising the vehicle but would like to share a few thoughts with you.
First, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Second I wish your son a speedy recovery.

Sorry for the injury and glad it was not worse. What year is the car and what is total miles. Was engine rebuilt and if so were new Maule pistons and cyls installed? My approach would be:
1. Call the 3 or 4 best used Porsche dealers and ask them for the favor of a value for the car before accident. The only one I know is Nick at European Collectables in Costa Mesa, Ca. Tell whoever answers the phone your story and that BArry Taylor advised you to call. I think Nick will take time to help you. Rennsport in Tulsa is really good with info and you may want to call them.
2. Call the wreckers and ask them the price for the engine and trans. (not for them to buy it but for your son to sell). There are several that advertise in the PCA mag. I have delt with the SF, Ca, Okla City, OK, and Joe Cogworth in Ga? and found them all skilled. Joe has had some bad press here but I think he would be glad to help you, esp with the military tie.
The engine and trans will retro fit into an older car and have a good width for the market------ but the market is severely upside down like everthing else. If the family is still 911 friendly, you might consider holding the eng/trans for a future car that has problems. I think car prices will continue to fall along with the economy, and the car with an eng or trans problem is/will be hit the hardest.
You may want to consider proper oil into the cyls thru the spark plug holes as part of a pickle process. Store inside off the ground on a pallet, spray heavy oil/protective film on the outside. Plug up all holes to keep spyders, mice out. Cover it.
I think we will all be interested in how things go for you all.

Yikes, that looks horrible...was another car out of control and hit them? That can't be from just a loss of traction due to sleet unless they were moving pretty quickly?
It could've been worse, glad to hear they got out with "just" the injuries reported. I hope this all works out.

that definitely looks like sideways into a tree, those boys are VERY lucky. sad end to a limited addition car. The only value left i think is in the egine and tranny sadly.
