Tire Rubbing
If I put 225/45 R-16 tires on my 7.0 x 16 rear rim, will there be any rubbing going on? My car is a 84 Carrera set at Euro Ht.

If it is a stock wheel, and your alignment settings are correct (no positive camber), you should be just fine. As an aside, I'm going to be running 255's on my car which is about 3/4" lower than the "Euro Height". I run 245's now with mild negative camber and only get a slight rub on the LH rear on extremely hard RH turns at speed on a track, particularly if they have a "gravity cavity".

I have 225 x 50 x16 on the rear of my 83 Sc on 7 inch rims and have no problems. Mine is a Euro spec SC. I'm planning (if I find two 8 inch Fuchs to mount the 225 x 50 tires on those rims and they will also fit nicely under the fenders with no rubbing.

With the usual wheels that you're talking about the rears will be fine,--the closest contact you will discover is nearly 100% on the front left fender,--which should prompt you to roll both your front fenders.

my comment is a little off this line, but may be relevant.
I got a set of 17" x 8 and 9 kinesis K20s several years ago for my 85 911. as I run DE/autocross and some street driving, when I got them I also had the alignment done with a little more negative camber. as the kinesis were offset for my 85 911, initially I did not have any significant rubbing issues. the exception is on hard turns the inside wheel would slightly rub the inside of the fender well, leaving a 'clean spot' but no tire damage. I had run Kuhmo victor racer 17 X 235f/255r at first, but then I got a set of Michelin pilot sport cup tires, 235/255 and encountered some rubbing. so had to roll the fender lips front and rear ;-(
I had also encountered a guy at Midohio that got a similar set of 17" wheels with same tires. but he did not have any additional negative camber and ripped the outer edge off the fronts first time on the track.
based on my experience, you are facing a multi-variable equation. wheel offset, amount of neg camber, and different tires with the same 'size' may have slightly different sholder profile that can effect rubbing.

one of our DE instructors had significanly lowered his 911 and had rolled his fender lips to accomodate his wheel / tire package. he had been OK before he got the Michelin pilot sport cups. then encountered too much rubbing.

911tracker85, your comments are valid. It should also be noted that the same sized tires from different manufacturers can have a variety of tread width.
But, make no mistake, the question about 225's fitting on the rear on 7" wheels is an absolute yes.

agree. that is what I had before getting the 17".
and that is why I started my post with disclaimer. but I suspect once lfe132 starts down this path as the rest of us have, I thought it may be helpful for him to know how multifaceted things get.
of course that is part of the fun, isn't it?
but he has definitely come to the right place. I can't believe I had not been a rennlist member/addict sooner. I am constantly amazed at the wealth of knowledge and experience people on rennlist are willing to share.
and occasionally someone with more knowledge/experience is willing to jump in and correct any misinformation.
PS. I track/DE an 85 targa. getting a full, bolt in cage before the track season start this year. no rear spoiler currently but a tasteful ducktail likes yours is on my 'want' list. but safety stuff first.
I have got to get around to updating my profile with pics.

will do. I installed a set of the targa body braces a couple years ago. they connect to the seat belt bolts on the targa bar and the floor. create a little triangulation. the effect was noticable, reducing cowl shake and making car feel stiffer. if the cage does what I hope by adding some stiffness to the chassis, these will be for sale.
