Hi,
I am going to go look at the 911 tomorrow with ~51k on the clock and a blown engine.
Is there anything i should look at specifically?
What’s the car worth in your opinion?.
Would you pay $10K, $15K for it?
How difficult/expensive is a rebuild?
Thanks
PS.. As you can probably tell I am new to the 911 crown, and any help would be appreciated

Most guys here stopped counting when the # went to 964 and then 993. Try the 993 guys for advice.
blown engine sounds scarry. Too many variables to guess a price

I believe that would be a that would be a 996. You would probably get more info. on the 996 forum.
1st water cooled, problems with intermediate shaft. If you want a 996, there are plenty out there without blown engines. There was an interesting article in Excellence magazine(2 issues ago) detailing the problems these engines have had. Wayne at Pelican is also looking into ways to address these issues.

I did a lot of reading on the M96 engine during my Boxster S days. There are conversions out there to take the 986S 3.2 to a 996 3.4 that interested me.
The aforementioned Excellence article is a must read.
If you go for it, you may as well look for the highest performance motor you can stick in there and not start with a 3.4 liter (296HP) and go with the 3.6 (320HP) stock, but if my memory serves, you have some major wiring/electronic changes to make.
The good news is these crate motors and used motors are some of the least costly P car replacement motors out there due to the number of 996's out there and the need for replacement motors.

the red one on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=
$10k for one with a blown motors and who knows what else it may need. I think if you have access to a motor and have someone willing to do the install for cheap or are handy yourself its worth it. If not you are looking at another $10k plus to do all the work and you can buy a nice one for small $20's now so imho not worth the headache. Leave it for the mechanics to fight over.
