Post Need help with brake warning light !!

Had a post earlier and want to thank everyone for the imput. My brake lights quit and I replaced both brake switches. Everything is up to snuff, lights work, but the warning light is still on in the dash. I have checked everything from prior posts, and cannot find the problem. I really dont want to resort to black tape on the light.
Thanks to all in advance.
Ernie
PS Failed to mention that I have a 81 911sc

Could be a couple of things, depending upon what year your car is. From your description, it sounds like you have an earlier car with the hydraulic style switches on the master cylinder. If this is the case, then look on the switches for a small reset button in between the terminals. Press the button(s) to reset them. If you have a later model with the mechanical switch in the pedal cluster, then try disconnecting the battery for a minute to reset the light. Let us know how you make out. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

When I did this repair on my 911SC, I had to unhook the Battery for a few minutes to get the light to go out.

Unhook the negative battery cable and then put it back on. That resets the SC light (there is no reset button, but you do have the dual VW/PCAR switches).

Continued problems can *sometimes* be related to differing bulbs in the tailights (that is, different manufacturer with differing QA tolerances permitting differing current draw). That is an unscientific theory however.

When you replace these switches, it is imperative to flush the sockets they go into prior to putting the new switch in. You will find all manner of gunk and water in the lower recesses of the MC.

Good luck and let us know how this works.
