Default Early 911 book recommendations

Hello all,

Can anyone here recommend some good books for early 911's (65-73). I want to get as much info on these as possible. Looking for information regarding the car specifics (factory) and differences between the years.

thanks.

Did you try Peter Zimmermann's book "The Used 911 Story"

I think that I lay out the details pretty well in my book (my signature), and it's available at Amazon.com. Be sure to request the 8th Edition. Enjoy!

I have some other books on 911's, but they are really just picture books, not fact books.

there are many books on the 911's history & development. the "basic canon" would include...
Paul Frere / The Porsche 911 Story (the insider factory story)
Karl Ludvigsen / Excellence Was Expected (3 vols, comprehensive of all Porsche, pricey & worth it)
Bruce Anderson / Porsche 911 Performance Handbook
here are some others I've found useful...
Richard Langworth / Porsche: A Tradition of Greatness (survey of all Porsche history in a single volume)
Brett Johnson / The 911 & 912 Porsche - A Restorers Guide to Authenticity
Brian Long / Porsche 911 The Definitive History '63-'71
Boschen & Barth / The Porsche Book: A Definitive Illustrated History (factory insiders)
Tobias Aichele / Porsche 911: Engine History & Development (another insider)
Randy Leffingwell / Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide (has the yr-by-yr breakdown + specs)
Patrick Paternie / Porsche 911 Red Book (guide to each generation, specs, options + production #s)

so, these are a start (I know I've left out some good ones) & will generate heat & light whilst reading on a cold winter evening. cheers!

ps: (Bill) Block's Books (248-535-1449) is a great (Porsche enthusiast) source (& deals) for Porsche books.

I highly recommend Peter's book. I have two copies (including the latest).

I would also recommend "Buying, Driving, and Enjoying the Porsche 911 and 912 (1965-1973)" by James E. Schrager.

to get as much info as possible, get Frere's book.

but do you want info for a purchase decision? it's not clear in your post - if so PZ's book is good, tho as I recall he has an inordinant fondness for the '73.5 CIS cars..

I especially like the way Frere's book details the changes and development of the 911 year by year, and the Boschen and Barth book is fantastic for coverage of racing cars development.

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I have pick up a few books via amazon. Pete, yours is one of them. Randywebb, I soon will be looking for a early 911 to add to the collection. Just wanted to do a little research to see which one is the best suited for me.

For a "fact" book, I'd give a +1 to Brett Johnson's The 911 & 912 Porsche - A Restorers Guide to Authenticity. Lots of detail pic of differences from one model to the next. One of the first books I bought.

Peter Morgan's 'Original Porsche 911' is good, too.

Frere's and Gruber/Konradsheim's have loads of great information.

I missed the Peter Morgan book.

Here's a book that helped form the cornerstone of my adolescent automotive lust:

Illustrated Porsche's Buyer's Guide
by Dean Batchelor and Randy Leffingwell

You can preview the latest edition.
