Door panel removal? How
My window made a real sharp cracking sound today when it went down. I thought it had broken the glass but all seems fine. I did hear something rattle to the bottom of the door. Everything still works fine but I know something happened. How do you take the door panel off and will I be able to see anything in there?
It's an 86'. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
thanks in advance,

Your window has probably popped out of the bar which it rests in. I replaced this bar last weekend because mine had done the same, the old bar was corroded.
Roll the window a little more than 2/3 of the way down.
Remove the screws from around the map box. There are about four around the bottom, two at each end and another which goes into the handle and is accessed by lifting the arm rest.
Disconnect the door release, (Just lift the little bar which it pulls)
Remove the interior door handle, (there are two hex screws which are buried way in there)
Remove door lock ****, pop the plastic and theres a bolt underneath, then UNSCREW the plastic surround.
Remove the small plastic plate at the front top corner of the door near the mirror. Remove the screw underneath.
Remove the screw under the small plastic button at the back top corner of the door. The top piece will now lift free.
Remove any more screws on the door panel, If you have a manual wind window remove the crank. If you have electric windows slowly pull the panel back, get a pad of paper handy and make notes on which color wires go where (the thought "why isn't this a single plug for each switch will race through your mind!")
The panel should now come free, there are a few press fit nylon fittings which need to be pulled out gently.
There isn't much room to get your hands in but the bar which holds the window can be removed without undoing anything else by sliding forward and then back on the wheels. There should be a U shaped rubber strip in the bar. If the bar is in good shape you can put the window back in and glueing it with some silicone kitchen and bath caulk.
Put some grease in the wheel runners while your in there. Let your caulk dry for a while before operating the window.
AND...Before putting it back together connect your switches or crank and try the window.
This will take about an hour and a half to accomplish and the description of how to do it sounds worse than it is.
Good Luck
