Default Anyone signed up for POC STS#1 @ SOW 1/24-25?

I'm finally in town and will be out for my first STS with the POC. All signed up with my Motel 6 room reserved in Mojave Friday and Saturday nights. Several guys from Pelican will be there, and we're going to do a dinner somewhere Saturday night.

I was about to cancel because my new wheels aren't shipping until the end of the month-too late to get my new tires on. But, since I'm new to POC, I have to go to the driver's school Saturday which includes Skidpad work and braking excercises in the morning before track sessions that afternoon. That will be a blast using up the last bit of rubber on my Pilot Sport Cups!

The new tires will get broken in at the next event....

Ed,
I will be there both days. I will be there late in the afternoon on friday and will probably hang around until dark if you want to join us for dinner fri eve. I will probably be supervising the skidpad on Saturday. PM me.

Hi Mike, if I can work my schedule to get out of here at a decent time, I'll plan on dinner. I'll PM you for the details. There are a number of guys from the Pelican track forum signed up, and we're planning a Saturday dinner too.

I hope the weather forecast changes (showers Sat/Sun): that's probably a safe bet as it's been different every day.

It was looking dicey on the weather, but maybe we'll end up dodging a bullet after all?

No worries, track days in the rain are fun, you learn a lot about car control! But yeah having to huddle inside in between sessions isn't as fun! See you there.

Ouch, didn't see that you have R-comps. Hopefully you have another set of wheels and tires, looks like rain is gonna happen out there on Sunday at least. I have been contemplating when to make the switch, but I will wait till I have redone the whole suspension so that I can actually take advantage of them. My 951 is my only car, so I run Bridgestone Potenza RE-01Rs which are just barely short of full R comps in terms of grip but they are EXCELLENT in the rain. I did a full day of torrential downpour at big Willow last year and a couple sessions at Laguna Seca in the wet in them and they were great. I have a set of Dunlop Direzza Z1s on deck which are supposed to be comparable but noisy. We'll see.

I sold my Kinesis street wheels/tires a year or so ago, I run R's year-round now. It's starting to look like we may be OK til Sunday night. My real issue is that I'm at the very end of my tires' life now, but since I'm just starting in POC, I need to go to the school on Saturday where skidpad work, etc is gonna chew them up anyway. My new wheels and tires should be on in 2 or 3 weeks; been waiting on the wheels to ship.
