Question '68 L Targa, opinions please...

Since few were made, why isn't this model selling for a lot more? Anyone actually restore one?

Thanks.

if it were the softback targa I imagine it would be worh quite a bit fully restored. Given the lack of galvanizing of the body at the time i imagine it would be hard to find one in realy nice shape. The cost of restoring these cars can be enormous, and if you don't . Then your just driving a rusted Porsche

It's a Sportomatic could be the reason why. Fine for a collector car that just sits but I think most people buying one to drive and enjoy would prefer a standard.

'68 was a transition year. Interior panels, the dash top, outer door handles, air pumps on the engine...a lot of parts were either unique to the '68 or were two-model-year parts. So restoring one can be difficult, depending on what you have to start with. And as was mentioned, rust is an issue on all the early cars.

And I think there's an arguement to be made that in the "pecking order" of SWB cars, the "S" models (not available in the US in '68) and earlier cars will always command higher prices with the last year of the SWB cars ('68) bringing up the rear.

On the other hand, they are SWB cars, and for the driving experience, there's nothing quite like 'em...
