TIMING, ?
A few months ago I had my CD UNIT rebuild vehicle has being running ok but during my diagnostic to find the problem I had played with the distributor and put it back to where I thought was good car has being running ok, yesterday I finally had time to look at the timing with a light and it was of a little so we set it to 5deg. but now it feels like it has a flat spot and doesnt seem to accelerate correctly by the seat of my pants, it idles right at 950 rpms I havent mess with idle speed or co adjusments do I need to have does set again or is my timing off.

Ernie: Don't forget the 5 degree procedure. You have to remove both vacuum hoses from the ign. distributor, then slow the idle to 900 +/- 50 rpm using the speed screw on the throttle body. Now you can set 5 degrees BTDC, lock down the distributor, speed up the idle a little, put the hoses back on and then final set idle speed. Also, this should be done on a warm engine. Hopefully advance/retard are working properly!

How much over stock timing is a good timing to set the stock engine at for a 1981 if you're running 93 octane with the retard hose disconnected and no cat? I had read that advancing the timing had offered benefits in performance to some and I wanted to know if anyone knew what they were running instead of just setting it by ear.
