Brand new to this forum.
I own a new to me 1973 911 Targa restoration project. I would like to explore engine rebuild possibilities in the Stamford, CT area and perhaps boring the block for larger displacement as well. Any help in locating a good place for such work would be appreciated.
Also, a good online vendor for needed Porsche parts and Euro mods for this vintage would be helpful.
Thank you,
Rocky

Dan Jacobs is a highly respected guy. Helped me out one time at the Glen and refused to accept anything in return. Mention his name in the racing forum and I'm sure you will get the same feedback.

I can second the positive feedback for Dan Jacobs. I've had great experiences with him. Both in his shop and out as he's helped me with knowledge and encouragement on DIY jobs over the phone.

i join the chorus.
Dan has always had time for me, as well as unlimited goodwill, for many years.
His shop is great for all types of motor work and is very honest/direct.
i believe his # is 203-262-0569
He should be about 45 minutes from stamford.

Just to help you out, you may want to buy Wayne Dempsey's "How to rebuild 911 engines" book just to educate yourself. It will help you talk to whatever mechanic of shop you choose.
Not to sound arrogant or insult you, but there is no block in a 911....you have a 2 piece case. So, you have no block to bore, as you do with a V-8, and you don't bore the case (usually). You can modify displacement with different pistons and cylinders. So, the point is, the more you can learn about the building of a 911 engine, the better you'll be able to decide what you do/don't want to do. This is not an inexpensive process, even if you do it yourself (I spent close to $10K on parts and machining when I built mine to a mild upgraded specification).
Wayne's book covers a lot of ground and will make you a better consumer, or maybe the impetus to tackle it yourself. Good luck!

I have mucho experience in newer VW/Audi engines but none in Porsche. The "block" thing got me. I will have to change my mode of thinking for this car.
I currently own a 2001 Audi TT 225 Quattro (1.8T) and a 2002 Audi S6 Avant quattro (340hp V8).
This 1973 Porsche 911 Targa will be coming from Washington State. My father-in-law just gave this project to me as he is getting older and had partially disassembled this car for his own restoration. As is, it is a mess but is now my mess and I have to figure out how to get the chassis and components (including a disassembled engine) here to Stamford CT.... Fun.
