Default Ride height

Okay, for my first official thread.

How do we adjust the height of our cars? Any ramifications? Things to watch out for?

Mine is sitting much higher in the front than the rear.

Thank you for any information. (btw, my Bentley hasn't arrived yet.)

Welcome to Rennlist, Ron. I saw in your other post that you have Wayne's 101. Read Project 55 - Lowering the 911. That will give you the basics.

The front is easy. The rear is a weekend project. Note that this will screw up your alignment & this must be re-done.

Maybe your rear shocks are in need of replacement?

Thanks Ian, I should have looked there first, but since I just moved I am still trying to sort out the new garage. Finding this book will be my first priority now.

Well you could try the bounce test but that is not always revealing. If you are a bit more brave you could unbolt the bottom of one shock and see how it feels to compress and release it.

Hey there...
The front is easy, just do each side with equal turns and remember how many incase you want to set back.

Default could. not. resist.

Whatever you do, don't do what I did!

OK OK just kidding. I couldn't resist. Somebody photochopped this photo of my car as a joke in a ride-height discussion on another board and I couldn't resist posting when I saw this thread.

Happy New Year!

VroomGrrl,
Tooooo Funny! If that were real, you would probably be the first to have air ride/hydraulics on a 911.

Happy New Year to you as well.

I had my 87 cab lowered and corner balanced for the track. It definitely handles better. I also have the DASsport rollbar which "tightened up" the car some. As a result of the lowering I also found i had to have the inner fenders on the front rolled, cut up one of my front tires prior to rolling; now everything is fine. You also need to be careful of road bumps. I'll try to post a picture later. I think it looks better lowered as well. i have my numbers if you are interested.
