Default 87 911 Auto heat control

Does anyone have a good diagnostic procedure for testing this (911.659.058.02)? I would love to make sure it needs replaced before spending the money to replace it only to find out it is something else.. All motors have been tested and are working, but when heat is turned on it doesn't turn on... Help please, or if anyone has one on the cheap that is a known good part let me know...

Ian strikes again, previously un-identified relay in engine compartment with bad reed switch, rewired will now run you out of the car, write up worked like a charm...

Thank you everyone, back on the road we go...
