For reference I paid $1000 for a pair of 16 x 9's and 650 for a pair of 944 turbo 8's that fit on the front. Fuchs are much stronger, lighter and more in demand than aftermarket. You may pay more, but with a limited supply - well - you know about supply and demand - right?

You should know that fake Fuchs are not allowed on the track, and that should offer a clue. The problem with fake Fuchs, is that they essentially took measurements off the forged Fuchs, then cast the copycat, which is just not as strong as the forged Fuchs (although some Fuchs are beginning to show their age, structurally).
I paid $750 for 16x9's a few years back, from a racer, and I refinished them from yellow paddles back to black. If you're serious about wanting 16x9's and money isn't a horrible concern, Wheel Enhancement has them new, maybe $1200-$1500/pair (or at least they used to fairly recently).

By not originals, do you mean they are not really Fuchs, but they look like Fuchs? Fuch look-a-likes should be fairly cheap compared to Fuchs, but I don't know exactly how cheap; several hundred for 4 rather than 1.5k for 4 Fuchs maybe, but depends a lot on condition. Fuch in those sizes are fairly expensive because they are forged (light and strong) rather than cast, as most Fuch knock-offs are. The 9" Fuch are also relatively rare. You might have heard some caution about knock-off Fuchs, as years ago there were quite a few wheel failures among the "fakes"; the center portion would just rip out. More recently someone here claimed that those failures were apparently early versions of a Fuch fake made by a Japanese company. I don't know, because I was never tempted to buy anything but real Fuchs, which I'm convinced are better in every way except price.

I have a friend who used to run a fake 9 in the back along with the real 7 in the front. He never had any problems but he did have some concearn in the back of his mind. The thing about the fuchs spoke design is that it is optimized for a forged wheel and not a cast one. I have been running real 7's and 9's on the track for 8 years now and previously ran 7's and 8's. I have never had a problem with them. Not that one would normally expect to, but in all those years, I have put my wheels through some serious abuse. Curbs, off track excursions, etc... I trust these wheels like I trust the foundation under my house. There is no stronger wheel, period. I just bought a extra pair of new in box 9's from www.msroadrace.com this week to use with street tires. Over $1,300, though used should be less. This was his last set of new in box from a brand new batch of 40. He said they went quickly. Shop around though since used ones are just as good. They might even have some. You might get a set that needs refinishing, but you can do whatever finish you want. Good luck.
