Question Distributor counterweight springs broke - Carrera 3.2

I forgot to ask when my I accomplished the "money shift" but do the springs let go in the distributor from overrevving or is it something else?

When I pulled the cap and rotor, 2 springs (broken) were laying in the bottom of the distributor.

Could be a casualty from the incident. The dizzy isn't immortal. Here's a nice current thread on R&Ring a 3.2 dizzy that may help you:

Thanks Ed. I haven't pulled it apart to really inspect it but I hope it only occurred during the "unexpected rapid acceleration" timeframe or I might be in for some expensive distributor repair....
