Cabriolet Hard Top

Edgy: The install of the hard top on the earlier cars is a breeze.
It's the removal and storage of the soft top that can be a pain. Mainly the adjustments etc.. once the soft top is re-installed. Of course that's not a problem on the 83 becuase it's manual. BTW, Love the color on your cab!
Vino: No problem..
I have a buddy with a 964 cabrio and a "wild hair up his azz" to go hardtop & speedster clam shell. His plan is to run the hardtop until the weather warms-up then switch over to the speedster clam shell.. leave the soft top parked in the attic.
Funny, I had a 57 T-Bird and I'd put the HT on in fall & run it until late spring. Once the HT came off that was it, I never bothered to put the soft top up. The only worry was of course getting caught in the rain at which point I either headed for home or shelter until it stopped or slowed enough to drive! Hell, it's not like it was my daily driver. I miss that car!!

Thanks for the clarification on the older cab to 'hardtop' mounting. I always thought that was an outstanding design with a darker colored car,--you can hardly see the seam. Unfortunately, as a cabriolet with the canvas up, there is quite poor visibility out to the rear quarters,--otherwise great!
Storage of the newer hardtops makes the newer designs simple,--as you carry the soft top internally with you always. It's a clever design.
Like the color, too. Thanks.

I am one of the few actual owners of a OEM hardtop, yes the are about 10K. the main problem is the switch from soft to hardtop, you have to unbolt and remove the soft top. If someone wants the best of both worlds... I suggest a Targa

Reviving this thread. Does anybody know about the 964 hardtop / tonneau option? I hear there are a few zip in tonneau covers like the early 550 / 356 cars.

Hard Top & Speedster Clamshell for 1980's 911 Carrera Cabriolet ?
I would like to buy a removable Hard Top and a 1989 Speedster Clamshell hump for my 1986 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
I know I will have to remove the convertible canvas top with its plastic window. In the Winter I will put on the Hard Top and in the Summer I will put on the Speedster Clamshell.
Those above links are no longer working in this old thread so does anybody have any current info on who could make an aftermarket Hard Top and or a 1989 Speedster Clamshell for a 1986 911 Cabriolet ?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

I have spoken with them over the years. Still available as of last year. I would like to do this but the $8500 or so for parts, labor, shipping from France, and paint is a lot.
Good luck.

This forum is great, thank you guys for the helpful info. I am very seriously considering buying a Hardtop from D. Moris Styling in France for my 911 Cabriolet.
Has anyone reading this thread bought one yet, and if so would you please give us a review ?
Thanks again to everyone that helps.

Gentlemen,
I currently have a 1983 911SC Cab and I am not really a Cab guy. (Noise, heat soak, etc). I having been looking around for a Hard top for the car (similar to the ones they make for a Boxster, etc).
I tried searching the forums, but my terms didn't come up with anything helpful. Does anyone here know where to get one, or how much they cost, etc....
Thanks!

As a 964 cab owner I have found these very interesting with main drawbacks being the requirement to remove the soft top and storage of the tops and the cost of hardtop.
My only experience with hardtops was a couple of Miata’s which didn’t require removing the soft top and are quite a bit smaller and easier to store.
