Default Chrome wheels

Last year I had purchased a set of '88 chromed 911 Fuchs , the centers were black anodized. I bought them from a guy that knows Porsches. I posted this subject on our Rennlist to see if anyone knew when the Fuchs came with chrome rims (not centers just the rim).
Well I got a flurry of replies stating that Fuchs never came from Porsche with a chromed rim.
Today I went to a fellows house with an '88. Guess what was on his car as of last year?......chrome rims with the windmill anodized.
He told me his son-in law also has a stock '87 911.........chrome rims with anodized centers.
I guess it will always be mystery

Do you mean a chromed lip or a polished lip?

No matter what they are on, Fuchs were not produced with chrome. Someone had them done.

There are at least 3 well-known and often used wheel refinishers in the P-car world who have done countless wheel refinishing jobs...not hard to imagine more than a few sets out there as you describe.

I'm like the others, are you confusing chrome with simply having the clear anodization removed and then polished? Many would think my outer 1/2" lips are chrome at first glance, but they are not, I just sanded off the clear anodization and polished them.

Chrome not polished. I found it odd that three people have/had this on the Fuchs. Like the other fellows mine have minor pitting as well. I'm sure it can't be good for the wheel to heat it during the chroming process. The interesting thing is the anodizing on windmill section of the wheel. How da' do dat?

Sorry for second guessing you. Yes, chroming does weaken the wheel from what I've read, but I'm certainly no expert.
