I recently purchased a 78 911sc with 145,000 miles, and when i was driving it home i got to the colder climate and alot of the oil blew out the breather hole in the top of the tranny. Has anyone else had this problem, could it have been to full, or had to much moisture? Any help would be appreciated. I also need to know where to get a manual so i know how the heater controls work.

The Type 915 gearbox has a vent on the top of the gearbox. I recall reading that if the vent is not oriented in the correct direction, it will blow fluid out of the gearbox. This situation is not temperature related though, so it might not apply to your car.
Maybe someone with "first hand" knowledge will give you more details.

The 1978 owners manual is Porsche part number WKD-467-721. I'd call Hendrick Porsche in Charlotte (800-315-8193) as they discount 20%-30%. Should be under $20. (No affiliation, just satisfied customer). If you like to do your own maintenance, the Bentley 911SC maintenance manual, while not perfect, is pretty good. List is $120, usually around $75 on the internet.

John, I will attempt to explain the cryptic heater controls. First, on the floor next to the e-brake are two levers that control the heater boxes, those should be pulled up in order to get the heat? to the cabin. Next, we have tha dash controls
The top levers are for the fan and vent( if your car is the same as mine). I turn the fan off( ie no whizzing sound). Next lever down directs the air up or down( feet or windshield). The last one I believe is a fine tune for defrost or vent , someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck!!!

Hi,
In my '73 911, the heater/ventilation controls work as described above:
The top lever allows outside air to enter the cabin and also runs a fan to ciruculate the outside air.
The middle lever directs the outside air to the windshield or floor.
The bottom lever directs the hot air (from the engine) to the windshield or floor.
The lever on the floor controls how much heated air from the engine is sent to the cabin.
Hope this helps.

Hello
Open the door from the glovebox to find a short heating lever description.
The vent from the 915 trany should be orientatet 0° angle ( showingdriving position )
Overfill can be splashed out when the trany oil gets hot.
