Default oil change - I am such a rookie sometimes

Well I drained the crankcase first, and figured my 8 litre pan or so should be enough for the tank ... it usually is.... but then I remembered I usually change when it gets down to the add mark. which is usually after about 5,000km. This time i am changin git for winter and it was still full.

Of course i remembered this as the exon- valdez oil slick spread across my garage floor ..... oh well life is funny sometimes.
I think I did okay though , i warmed it up thoroughly before and I think I got most of it out of the cooler as the thermostat was open .

When I filled it back up i used 11.5 of the 946ml bottles to get back to the full mark after it warmed up . That works out to about 10.9 litres. i don't think I am getting out much more than that !!!

all worked out good in the end and my car is happy.

Oh on an OT note I have a 2009 Maxima as a winter beater and I have to admit that is one nice car 290 horse and the CVT is not too bad. it is a totally different feel , no road feel and all fancy gadgets , but very nice and comfortable. Kind of like a 996 I guess :-)

Clive, were you able to get all the oil cleaned up off of your garage floor? And yes, Maxima's are pretty damn good cars. My Dad loves them and they are quite powerful and comfortable.

I put the RX-7 away this aft and took off the road insurance. I am having my P-car braking system overhauled by Auto Select in a month or so, so I don't think I will be putting that P-car away until December. I am praying for clear days because I ain't driving in the snow or salt.

Maximas are fun, didn't know they had the CVT in them. Did you get winter tires for it yet?

Funny you should mention that Mat .
I got quoted 1200.00 for 18" winters . I am looking at the possibility of going to a 17" with steel rim . it is actually cheaper believe it or not , even with the rim and it will save the aluminum ones.

Ya, I would go 17, it will also save you on the cost of having them mounted and balanced every year.

plus the annoying vibration because they never get it quite right.

it was about 2300 dollars over 4 years to take tires on and off including the cost of the tire. the 17s with rim care to about 1300.00 a no brainer in my mind.

Hey remember to put an oil filter back on Clive, ok?

Sometimes you've just gotta hold these rookies' hands...

My rookie mistake was forgetting to put the catch can under the car

Luckily the air-cooled VW only holds 2 1/2 quarts ($5 oil change)

ice: Back in the day I used to work on the next hoist over from a guy that was kind of forgetful. He was really a good guy, worked hard, and was one of the nicer people that I ever worked alongside of. Well, one day he was doing an oil change on a 4-cylinder car; I had my head buried in the engine compartment of the car that I was working on when I heard my co-worker say, "Oh, EXPLETIVE!"

I looked over and there he was, standing in a little more than two quarts of oil that had gone in the top, and out the bottom. He had forgotten to put the drain plug in. What a mess!

Pete, didn't you do this in off topic this morning? You put in the good stuff only to have it go to waste.

LOL! I don't know about that, but when I got banned I probably felt a lot like the cat in your avatar.
