Default H4 Headlight Upgrade - need someone to check their H4s ...

I installed the Bosh H4 upgrade (part#301-800-103x2) on my 89 911 cab and noticed that both lights have the same pattern on the same side. It seems that it should be different so I was wondering if someone with H4s can check and see if they have the same pattern. TIA

Pattern is the same. They can be used on either side.

That's correct. THat's to project light upward and to the right to see signs and things off to the side of the road better.

Those are defective, you got ripped off. However, because I feel bad for you because you got ripped off, I will buy those defective lights from you for $50 shipped.

I guess I will keep them. :-P

Any opinions on whether to put a clear protective cover to prevent cracks? Is that overdoing it or is there a real risk of a stone chipping the lens?

I don't know when mine were done, but when you look at my car against a car that has just had them installed, there is a huge difference. If I was installing from new, I would buy the film for sure. It is cheap anyway.

How much did you pay for the kit if you don't mind me asking? I may redo mine one day.

what you ahve is correct. I've heard that it's the european thing to shine light to the left side (driving on the left right of the road).

I believe I got them at Pelican Parts in the $39 range. I bought them back in July but I think that was the price. It is called the XPEL Headlight Protective Kit - PEL-909985 (909985). Performance Products should also carry it. I installed it last night - probably should have waited but it turned out fine.

Sorry, I meant the price for the H4 headlight kit. Sounds like you are talking about the protective film.

Sorry about that - it was a great deal IMHO. I got everything from ZIMS Autotechnik www.zimsautotechnik.com / 800-356-2964, in Texas. Part # H4BKT (black trim) - $508 for the pair and that included the trim cover x2 (real OEM from Porsche) and adjustment / outer trim screws x2. These little items are all extra elsewhere and add up. The pig tails for the wire harness (3 terminal plug) were $7.95 each. No tax (Calif.) and $13 to ship. Bosch 911.631.113.02 is the part # for the H4s in blk trim.

I hope you have the after-market relay kit for those nice lights. If not, the amps pulled by those lights will soon burn out your high/low beam (turn-signal) switch and/or on/off light switch. All the current for the lights runs through the switches on the stock light wiring circuit.

If you don't have seperate relays for high beam/low beams and are relying on the stock electrical circuits, you're loading up the system pretty good with high amps, and risk loosing all lights when the switches suddenly burn out.

Check with your local shop about the after-market relay systems for the lights. They'll be brighter, you'll only pull 10 or less amps through the light switches, and you can drive at night with greater piece of mind.

Just a thought ....

The only reason to put in extra relays is when you put higher wattage bulbs in them. Stock are 55W, but if you go to 80/100 or higher, you will need the relays. One benefit I realized when I did the relays was that the instruments lights are now brighter.

I would put the plastic covers on ASAP if you drive the car during the winter. A lot more sand and stones find their way onto the roads due to rain storms.

I bought the heavy clear film that Griots Garage sells, and eight years later it's still clear and protects my lights from impacts. Those H4 lenses are expensive.

I took a hit several years ago on one of my H4 lenses,--and sometimes they are hard to find when you need one when on the road someplace away from home. I would certainly suggest the film application, as finding these lenses is only going to get harder.
