Post Speedometer

My speedometer has never worked since I've owned the car(75 911s)and it's finally driven me crazy, I have to fix it. I pulled the speedometer out of the dash and unhooked the trip cable reset and the other cable. I keep reading about tha ERG box that is on a 75 but I don't see one on mine. Is mine electric? Is the cable that goes into it just for the odometer? I did manage to trace the cable back to the tranny and found two bends in the cable (obviously it's broke), but i Didn't see an ERG box. How do tell if the speedometer is electric or mechanical?

I believe you have the early 915 transmission with a sensor ring which sends a pulse to the speedometer. There is no cable, so in response to your question, the speedometer is electric. The wire runs into the tunnel where the shift coupler is and there is a plug which continues the wire to the speedo unit, make sure it's connected. Remove the cover which is in the rear passenger(yeh right!) area on top of the tunnel between the rear seats. good luck !

Took everything apart, I actually have a cable that leads to the tranny. Right by the shift coupler it was bent (an it was broken inside) I pulled about a five foot section of cable out and now I'm sure I don't have an ERG box. I did manage to hook up the speedo cable to the high speed drill and got no reaction from the needle at 2000 to 6000rpm. Now My question is where do I get this thing fixed or refurbished? I called Wayne a Pelican parts and he said the cable was like $30 something, and it was a pain in the butt to replace. I did look for the elctric hook up but it just wasn't there.
Thanks
