Default Need a daily driver

Hey there.

I have a '92 Turbo with 20.000 km, but I find it too unique to use it as a daily driver - so I need another 911. A car which is not unique or rare, because that would put me in the same dillema once again.

What I had in mind was an old 911, 64-73, something between the 2.0 l and 2.4 l engine. I don't know much about these early cars, so I hope you can tell me what to be aware of.

Also, I have read that the early cars wasn't galvanized, so does that mean I should be very careful if I want to use it in the wintertime? Rust?

cant beat an sc for daily driving. Well yes you can because there cheap and easy to come by and you dont have to wory as much about rust. Seems like your going from one extreme to the other going to a 64-73

Pre '76 weren't galvanized.

I'd say go with a Carrera as first choice, then an SC as second. Of course a 964 or 993 may be better yet for a DD.

A 64-73 would put you in the same dilemma once again.

For a daily driver in a city with heavy traffic I would prefer a 964 or a 993.

Exactly! I would go for a Carrera as it is a little more raw than the 964. It is a fun daily driver and if you need ac, get an 86+ with the bigger ducts. You can then work on the ac to get it running nice and cold.

How about a 996 for a DD.

I am starting to see ones with about 75,000 miles going for around 20k

yeah no kidding, the prices are dropping so fast how could you NOT go for a 996 as a DD. all the ceature comforts, nice comfortable driving car. it would be a no brainer for me. if i did not drive a company car.

996, 993, 964, Carrera, SC, 2.7, in that order. Anything earlier would make a poor daily driver, IMO.

Hey again. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Agree, this would probably be the best car to use as a daily driver. I would probably go with the 964 as this is the one I like the most. But I have already a 964, and now I want something different and older.

I know, but everyone can go out and buy one of these. There are always some 996s up for sale. I will rather have something more special (without being to special).

Someone also mentioned the SC and Carrera as a daily driver. I already have something 'new', now I want something old (2.0-2.4) - and it is meant to be as a daily driver.

I like the 2.0-2.4 more than the SC and Carrera, and a 964 is what I already have, so I really want one of these - any input on this? e.g. what to look for? price range for a not unique and rare car. Don't care that much about mileage, just want a car with some history.

Because you will have a car that is unique and rare again. There aren't a ton of nice driving early (pre-74) 911s left. When was the last time you saw one on the road? They are probably more unique and rare than your 964 Turbo.

I see...hmm...you guys are probably right. But I am still hooked on the car. I would probably get in the same dilemme again if I found a low mileage car, but I am sure that if a buy one of these (and then it had to be a car with lot of miles already, or I would end up in the same sitiation again) with intention to drive it and put miles on the clock, it wouldn't be hard to me.

Buy a 914 instead - they are unique and unloved, same with running 944s

My .02...you don't need another 911, you simply need to get over your "phobia" and drive what you have now. These cars are meant to be driven, and imo there is NO WAY you can "cost justify" buying another 911 in order to reduce depreciation (due to mileage) on your '92. There ya go, problem solved, see how helpful I am? Having said that...if you simply "want" another 911 to go along with your turbo...that's different .
